Ogun State government says it has
concluded plans to launch branded rice ,
produced locally in the state by
December .
The Commissioner for Agriculture , Mrs .
Adepeju Adebajo disclosed this during a
routine inspection of the first phase of
the rice harvested in one of its farms at
Eggua, in Yewa North Local Council
Area of the state.
She said the step was part of measures
at ensuring food security . Adebajo said
the state has begun harvesting 30
hectares out of the 100 hectares of rice
farm and would be ready for
distribution by December , after all due
processes had been followed.
Aside the fact that the 100 hectares
plantations are on the verge of been
harvested at the IFAD Value Chain and
FADAMA farms across the state , she
said , “ the rice will be of the best quality
because government provided the
farmers with most improved variety of
seedlings. “ The rice will be in our local
Ofada , Nerica and Faro 44 . ”
A farmer , Olugbenga Popoola lauded the
state government in the area of land
clearing, provision of improved
seedlings, and fertilizers , among other
inputs to achieve the best .
